Retired and active
I was born in 1950, studied Biochemistry at Chelsea College, caught politics and in ‘71 turned down a £2,000 pa job to work for £3.50pw as a charity volunteer. I was posted to Newham in ’72 and have lived here since. I was the first Secretary of first housing co-operative in Newham and still live in one (www.longlife.org.uk ). I have had a very varied career working first in housing, then as a self-employed consultant specialising in IT and business development, mainly in the co-operative, social enterprise and charitable sectors. In ’95 I started working with the Custom House and Canning Town Community Renewal Project CH&CTCRP and helped raise £2.3 million to save the St Lukes Church.
From ’98 I worked as a self-employed project manager creating a broadband network across Newham and from ’01 to ’03 and raised £1.6 million to create what was at the time the most advanced interactive TV service in the UK on the Carpenters Estate. In April 04 I helped create a partnership to deliver advanced telecare in Newham and then helped develop the successful £8.6 million Newham bid for Whole System Demonstrator (WSD) funding to support research into telecare and telehealth. From ’08 to ’11 I worked for Newham Council as the Integrated Care WSD Project Manager and subsequently as WSD Programme Manager for East London Foundation Trust. On completion of the WSD programme I worked to mainstream the telehealth service and in ’15, when this had been successfully completed Telehealth | East London NHS Foundation Trust, I retired from full time work. I remain interested in housing co-operatives, social enterprise and the use of IT to support wellbeing, health & social care.
